Knowing QR code.

QR code

QR code stands for Quick Response code which is a 2D bar code, readable by dedicated QR barcode readers and camera phones. The code consists of black modules arranged in a square pattern on a white background. The information encoded can be text, URL or other data.
You can have an idea about QR code from this link

It was created by Toyota subsidiary Denso-Wave in 1994, the QR code is one of the most popular types of two-dimensional barcodes & very common in Japan.  There are other 2D bar codes like DataMatrix, Cool-Data-Matrix, Aztec, Trillcode, Quickmark, Shotcode, mCode, Beetagg etc.
Although initially it was used for tracking parts in vehicle manufacturing, now used in much broader sense like mobile tagging. QR codes encoded addresses and URLs may appear in magazines, on signs, buses, business cards, or on any object meant to disspate information. Users with a camera phone equipped with the correct reader application(like this one) can scan the image of the QR Code to decode text, contact information, connect to a wireless network, or open a web page in the phone's browser.

Usage of QR code
  •  Saving & backup of sensitive information on hard copy & reading back from  appropriate reader or camera  phone.
  • Direct linking from physical world (reading QR code from physical locations such as a bus or card), known as a hardlink or physical world hyperlinks.
  •  Move information to smart phone quickly by reading the QR code of objects like as long link or text file.
For installing QR code in Linux, check this link.
